Facebook is turning up the dial on birthday wishes.
On Monday, the social network introduced a new way for users to wish a happy birthday to their friends: via a 15-second video they can record. The feature, currently only available in Facebook’s FB iOS app, appears on a friend’s profile on their birthday, and users can tap the button to record their own message for that friend, according to The Verge. The feature also includes birthday-themed frames to decorate the message, something that can be especially handy if the birthday person watches the video without sound.
In any case, it will be a more special message than a simple “Happy birthday,” or “HBD!” typed onto their timeline.
Facebook has been heavily investing in video in the past couple of years, and this feature is likely to be part of its hopes to get more people to post videos on Facebook. Back in September, Facebook’s head of ad product, Ted Zagat, said at Variety’s Entertainment and Technology Summit that, "a year or two from now, we think Facebook will be mostly video.”
